Miriam Josi is a Paris based designer and educator. Born in Berne, Switzerland, she later studied at the School of Fine Arts in San Juan, Puerto Rico, ENSCI-les Ateliers in Paris and Parsons The New School for Design in NYC.

Low-tech minimalism describes her hands-on design approach, aesthetics, fabrication techniques and simple assemblages of reclaimed elements. Objects, still lifes and material explorations are part of an ongoing research and playful process that examine material temporalities, sustainability and perceptions of value.

Miriam Josi is the co-founder of Aléa, an experimental design and material research studio that develops new ways of making that share control and benefits with the other-than-human. The research of Aléa’s unique process working with mycelium and soil is supported by Faire Paris by Pavillon de l’Arsenal and the city of Paris.

She teaches at Parsons The New School for Design in Paris the courses Sustainable Systems, Space Materiality and the MFA Fashion Design & the Arts Sustainability Seminar.
